The Small Print ...
~ Painted Furniture: All of our painted furniture has been stripped and/or sanded, primed, painted, and then waxed with natural beeswax to protect any exposed wood. Some have a distressed, washed or brushed finish (please note: these are hand-painted items and therefore DO NOT have a factory perfect finish, this is part of the 'charm' of our shabby chic items).
~ Vintage Furniture: All of our pieces of vintage furniture are by nature 'old', and therefore have been used for many years, conseqently there may be some general scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use. Any outstanding or large marks will be highlighted in the description.
~ Decoupage Furniture: All our pieces of decoupage furniture are pieces of vintage furniture which by virtue of their age and use are usually not 'like new' - though we do our best to source good quality, solid pieces. We use many layers of lacquer, varnish or glaze on our decoupage furniture to ensure its longevity.
~ Decoupage Art - ie Pictures & Room Dividers: All our pieces of decoupage art work are produced onto large pieces of wood which take the form of wall pictures or screens/room dividers. We use many layers of lacquer, varnish or glaze on our decoupage art to ensure its longevity.
We always used top quality branded materials in our work. For example, the vast majority of paint we use is Farrow & Ball, sometimes Fired Earth, sometines Craig & Rose, sometimes, Crown Period Colours, more recently Laurence Llewellyn-Bowens paint range, and now and again Dulux! Our favourite glaze is Farrow & Ball Scumble glaze. For decoupage we use layers Plasticote Krystal Clear Matt Lacquer and/or layers of Ronseal Clear Varnish. All our vintage wooden furniture is treated for woodworm if necessary with a top quality branded woodworm killer.
It is important to us to point out to any prospective buyer that however good the products we use - with any hand painted piece of furniture the paint may chip, or any vintage or decoupaged item may have varnish or lacquer which could scuff or chip - especially if it is being used daily, moved or transported. However, you may like the more distressed look, and prefer some flaws - because it adds to the style, character and individuallity of the piece! If you are NOT a 'distressed look' fan - we are happy to supply a small container of the shade used, so you can touch up the paintwork as required - please just ask!
Please be aware that if you purchase any of our furniture, the terms layed out here are what you are agreeing to. Viewing is ALWAYS available in advance of any purchase - by appointment at The Old Bothy, Dalry, Dumfries & Galloway!
